What Is Industrial IoT (IIoT)?

Industrial IoT is a network of industrial machines, sensors and devices that collect and share real-time data. It connects PLCs, drives, sensors and legacy equipment to the systems that monitor, analyse and act on that information, including SCADA, MES and analytics platforms.

IIoT is not plug-and-play, and it does not interpret data on its own. It does not replace engineering judgement. What it does is give manufacturers a continuous, accurate view of what is happening on the shopfloor, so that decisions about maintenance, quality and efficiency are based on live conditions rather than assumptions or end-of-shift reports.
